Haitians have been key to the development of the Dominican sugar industry since the twentieth century, but not being able to enjoy the benefits and privileges than Dominicans and normalized as cheap labor. This generates illegal migration into Dominican territory, and often leads to a subsequent repatriation.

In this performance someone from Haiti was hired to peel 500 sticks of sugar cane. Then, in a performance, the artist tries to consume them until it’s impossible to continue.
